David Stollmack, the Man Behind Audio Video Charlotte
For decades, Charlotteans have depended on David Stollmack for advice about their audio and video equipment. Music and movie enthusiasts still fondly recall David’s previous business, Audio Video Systems, the premier A/V store in Charlotte from the 1990s to 2001.
A native of Long Island, David moved to North Carolina to attend UNC Chapel Hill. He graduated with a degree in economics and began work in the stereo department of a music and entertainment retailer. Within six months, he was convinced he could run the business better.
One moment was pivotal. He was talking to his manager and used the expression, “I think.” The manager countered, “I don’t pay you to think.”
“I knew right then that treating people the right way was going to be very important to my success,” David says. With that philosophy, he founded and grew Audio Video Systems into one of the largest and most respected consumer electronics businesses in the nation.
He planned to leave the industry when he sold the company, but his passion for the field brought him back. His current business, Audio Video Charlotte, works with customers in their homes. David and his team advise and sell the best products for each customer, and install them to ensure the highest-quality systems.
“Most of my customers tell me they aren’t tech-savvy. I love helping them figure out what they need,” David says. “The job is still incredibly fun.”
